March 8th - Memories

I shared a disco earworm with my Facebook friends earlier today - and I thought I ought to do the same on my blog - so I give you the Gap Band on Soul Train.

Those were the days my friend....any night that I wasn't being a mom I was out dancing at a local club. And if I was home, I was often dancing in front of the TV.

Its funny - thinking back, I looked good - like that Klymax song.
"Slap me
No, somebody slap me
'Cause I know I'm lookin' good
I'm givin' attitude all over the room
People are starin' at me
And I just look too good for these people"

At the time I was a mass of insecurities - I was a single mother, not pretty enough, not smart enough, not rich enough.....

If only I'd appreciated what I had rather than focusing on what I thought I didn't have back then...

Those thoughts came back to me today because I was once again focusing on my imperfections rather than my assets.
- bad Em.

I sure don't want to find myself 20 years from now regretting that I didn't appreciate what I had "back then".

So lets all focus on the positives and embrace every day for all its worth.

March 5 - Caturday

I'm definitely not thrilled about the getting older thing.....I really wish I had everything I have now 20 years ago.......I would have used my youth more wisely.

But I'm healthy....more so than many of my friends - even younger ones.  So I'm just whining a wee bit, honest.

This morning I was changing out the bedsheets.  How many of you put the top sheet on backside up - so that when you fold the top over, that part shows rightside?

Thats something I'd never thought of until my friend Reggie started having me help her out making her bed.  She had a precise way of doing it....and amusingly enough it included putting the sheets on so that she could sleep with her head at the bottom of the bed because it was a better view of the TV.  But since she didn't want anyone to think she was odd - the comforter and pillows were arranged normally - she'd just move it all when she went to bed.

I miss her - she died unexpectedly a bit more than two years ago.  I'm ashamed to admit it, but I had to go back through my blogs to see what year it happened (though I did remember the date).

Going back, I found that I was 20 lbs lighter then and working hard to lose more, that I had gotten a call from my exbf and not answered the phone, and I was getting ready to heady out to Texas to meet my Aussie friend Bundy and his GF.

Not sure what happened with the weight - but I need to get back on track....quite happy nothing happened with the ex....and I'm going to see Bundy and his GF again in August :).;

Its a pretty day here - a bit cloudy but nice and warm......so its a good day to play "pick up sticks" in the backyard........I'll catch up with you folks later.

March 2nd - Wednesday wonderfuls

This is my veterinarian's waiting room......its much nicer than my own doctor's office.....but then again, I spend a 10 dollar copay for a checkup, while it cost me 80 dollars per furkid for an office visit and shots.

Speaking of which, the furkids were overdue for those shots.....and part of the reason was because of my internal debate over switching vets.  If you've known me for a while - you might remember the saga of Lumpkin.  Bad enough to find a lump - even worse to have the poor guy spend two days in a cage without food or water while waiting for the operation that never happened.

And I did find another vet, who gave me a second opinion that the tumor was really inoperable short of turning Pumpkin into a threelegged cat and there were no guarantees that would work.   I liked the vet, and the office, which was old fashioned and comforting (and less expensive).

But when Pumpkin stopped eating last week and I found myself hand feeding him Starkist.....I knew he needed to be checked out, and I was also very afraid this was the end of our lumpy road.

I decided that the problems I'd had with my vet office were all with their surgical practice - not with their veterinary treatment.....and that with furkids that hate to travel - closer was better, so off we went to Rocky Gorge as usual.

Where I found that there's a good chance that Pumpkin is suffering from a treatable respiratory infection rather than some sort of spread of his tumor.....and after just a day of antibiotics, he's not eating great- but a bit better than before.

And the 240 dollars I spent to get the furkids checked out was only half as painful because they'd put a large credit on the account due to my complaint about Pumpkin's missed surgery dates.

Then there was the fun of having Batcat behave well and impress everyone with his charm (and the unusuallness of a cat on a leash).  Of course, he fell off the windowsill - but I managed to catch him before anyone noticed his lack of grace.

Then there was the gas station surprise.  I had been carrying around what I thought was a ten dollar Exxon gift card....but when I went to use it yesterday - I managed to pump 19.63 worth of fuel in the car before it shut off....so I guess it was worth twice as much as expected.

And finally, I've been bowling pretty well.....shot a 565 last night.

So it has been a whole lot of wonderfuls around Chez Em this week - hope things are going well for you too.....
