01/09/11 - Hope I become comfortably numb....
This picture is the first thing that came up when I googled pictures of freezing cold....but then I realized that my frigid digits had actually typed cod.
Therefore, freezing cod.
Technically speaking it isn't freezing cold in here - before I turned the dysfunctional furnace off it registered 58 degrees in the hall.....but its cold enough for me to wish I had a real fireplace instead of this electric one that trips its breaker if I try turning it on more than half way.
But it's better than nothing....between it and the oilfilled radiator heater that I moved from the basement to upstairs I should make it through the night.
The problem has to do with a furnace safety feature that is reading a problem and locking down the system. It used to be that I could flip the unit off and then on and get it to run, but that stopped working this and it's completely dead.
Fortunately, my home warranty company considers a lack of heat to be an emergency......and so they called around until they found someone who promised to be here tomorrow between 12 and whatever - but that would allow me to head out to the airport by 4 pm to make my flight to Phoenix. The repair company just called to assure me they understood the situation and I'd be able to leave on time......but I still wish they'd found me someone who could come tomorrow MORNING so I wouldn't be so nervous.
Actually, worst case scenario is I leave with the two electric heaters running....the cats have fur anyhow...but if that happens I'm changing from singing the praises of my home warranty company to not renewing my policy because they got me stuck.
Could be worse though.....It was lucky that the prior owner left that radiator heater in the basement - lucky that my brother gave me his old electric fireplace when he got a new one.....and lucky that I wasn't trying to leave earlier tomorrow.
Lucky that I went in to work for a couple of hours today to catch up and get warm - and I'll still be able to go in tomorrow morning for a few hours knowing that they won't be here till noon rather than having to sit around.
Lucky that I remembered to do my online check in for Southwest early enough that I have B11 which pretty much guarantees me a left side of the plane window seat (the best option for a lefthander like me)....or a right aisle if I think I'm going to be staying awake the whole trip (window seats I can lean and sleep - aisle let me get up to pee as needed).
Lucky that I have free drink coupons and will be taking a hotel shuttle rather than driving so I can drink if I want to. Hmmm - maybe I'll take the window seat and sleep a bit after all.
Lucky that I am getting ready to go on an adventure with Amy.
Yep, life is good.
COLD, but good.
